Week 8 Friday Football Pick ‘Em: Centreville-Westfield, Long Reach-Howard, Good Counsel-Gonzaga and more

Welcome to Week 8 of the Washington area’s high school football season, where the stakes are higher than ever with the playoffs looming in less than a month. We’ve got another weekend full of games that promise exciting finishes and noteworthy results. Here at AllMetSports, we’ll also be broadcasting our first full game on Facebook live, in partnership with DMV Stream, when No. 11 Good Counsel plays at No. 7 Gonzaga on Saturday afternoon. And as usual, we’ve got you covered with reporters canvassing the region this weekend at the best matchups.

On Friday night, we’ll be at the showdown of undefeated Howard County schools between Long Reach and No. 13 Howard; the battle for first place in the D.C. Interscholastic Athletic Association Stripes division pitting Bell against host Theodore Roosevelt; a huge late-season tilt in Fairfax County matching No. 14 Centreville against defending Virginia 6A state champion Westfield; a crucial Southern Maryland Athletic Conference game between defending Maryland 2A state champion Patuxent and Chopticon; an Anne Arundel County playoff rematch between No. 6 Old Mill and Broadneck; an interesting contest in Purcellville featuring longtime rivals Loudoun Valley and Loudoun County; and a Virginia Conference 7 matchup between W.T. Woodson and Mount Vernon with major playoff implications.

On Saturday, in addition to our one-of-a-kind coverage of the huge Washington Catholic Athletic Conference matchup featuring Gonzaga and Good Counsel, we’ll also be at an intriguing nonleague game in Prince George’s County between undefeated Oxon Hill and Eleanor Roosevelt.

It’s another full slate of high school football, but don’t worry about trying to keep track of it all. That’s what we’re here for. Make sure you check back with AllMetSports throughout the weekend for updates, game stories, photos and videos. And don’t forget to check out our live stream of the Good Counsel-Gonzaga game Saturday afternoon on Facebook Live.

Before leaving for the field, though, we want to know who you think will win the biggest high school football games in the Washington area this week. Vote in our weekly poll below and let your voice be heard.
