Summer Zervos, Donald Trump Accuser: 5 Fast Facts You Need to Know

Another woman has come forward to accuse Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump of sexual assault.

This latest accusation comes from Summer Zervos, a restaurant worker and former contestant on The Apprentice who alleges that in 2007 she met with Donald Trump to discuss a job opportunity, only for him to sexually harass her and thrust his genitals at her.

Zervos is being represented by Gloria Allred, whose clients frequently include victims of sexual abuse. Allred says that she has spoken to several people who Zervos told about the incident at the time and who can corroborate.

Here’s what you need to know about the latest Donald Trump sexual assault allegation.

1. She Competed in the Fifth Season of ‘The Apprentice’

Summer Zervos encountered Donald Trump when she competed in the fifth season of The Apprentice, Donald Trump’s hit NBC show. The fifth season aired from February to June of 2006.

Zervos was the first contestant to be fired that season. In the show, blame was placed on her for not calling up enough restaurants for a promotion while she competed with the Gold Rush team, and so she was fired by Trump at the beginning of the season.

The Apprentice contestant grew up in California, and she came to New York in order to be on the NBC reality series. Ironically, the next season would take place in Los Angeles, but Zervos said in an interview at the time that she enjoyed the experience of coming to New York City.

“I am a little bummed,” Zervos said of the fact that the next season would take place in California, where she is from. “But being in New York, living here…I wouldn’t trade that experience for anything.”

In her statement today, Zervos says that she admired Trump before coming on The Apprentice, seeing him as a possible mentor. This high opinion of Trump continued even after she was fired, which is why she got in contact with him about a year later.

2. She Says Donald Trump Forcibly Kissed Her on the Lips

Zervos alleges that a year after her experience on The Apprentice, she was going to be in New York City and she decided to contact Trump to see if he wanted to have lunch. She was told that he didn’t have time for this but that he could meet her at his office in Trump Tower.

As soon as she arrived at Trump’s office, Zervos alleges that Trump immediately began kissing her on the lips. She was surprised but thought perhaps Trump just greeted people in a strange way, so she sat down and they began talking.

Trump then allegedly told her he would love to have Zervos work for him, and he complimented her for being smart and attractive. Then, just as she was about to leave, Zervos says that Trump kissed her on the lips a second time.

She says she felt uncomfortable by the whole experience but, after speaking with her parents and friends, felt that she probably shouldn’t take the kissing as anything other than a friendly greeting.

3. She Later Met With Trump at a Hotel and He Allegedly Sexually Assaulted Her

Zervos says that Trump called her up when she returned home from that meeting and asked her to meet him at a hotel to discuss a job opportunity. Trump was coming to Los Angeles, and he wanted to have dinner with her and meet at a Beverly Hills hotel, Zervos says.

When she met with Trump, Zervos alleges that Trump again began kissing her on the mouth very aggressively, going on to place his hand on her breast. She says she repeatedly resisted and tried to get him to stop, making clear she was not interested.

Zervos says that she tried to push Trump away but that he continued and began thrusting his genitals at her. She repeatedly avoided sexual contact and told Trump that she just came to have dinner, and afterwards, Zervos says that Trump became angry.

“He started saying that he did not think I had ever known love or had ever been in love,” she said today.

Zervos says that over dinner, Trump suddenly began speaking all about business, and shortly after dinner, they parted for the night. Zervos adds that when she tried to follow up about a job with the Trump Organization, now that it was clear she did not want to sleep with Trump, he avoided taking her calls.

4. She Came Forward Because of the ‘Access Hollywood’ Tape

Summer Zervos says she came forward specifically because of the Access Hollywood tape on which Trump brags about being able to force himself on women, kissing them before they even have a chance to say anything. The behavior he describes in that conversation with Billy Bush is virtually identical to what Zervos alleges happened during her meeting with Trump at his office. Multiple other women have described the same activity.

Zervos’ attorney, Gloria Allred, says Zervos had no plans to go public with this story until the tape came out.

“You do not have the right to treat women as sexual objects just because you are a star,” Zervos said during the press conference, clearly referencing Trump’s language on the tape, which he has described as mere locker room talk.

Zervos adds that she tried to reach out to Donald Trump earlier this year, hoping to confront him and ask him to apologize for his behavior, but she did not receive a response.

“Mr. Trump, when I met you, I was so impressed with your talents that I wanted to be like you,” she wrote in her letter. “I wanted a job within your organization. Instead, you treated me as if an object to be hit upon.”

Trump has repeatedly questioned the motives of his accusers this week, asking why they did not come forward until now. The majority of them have said that it was in response to Trump stating during the second presidential debate that he has never sexually harassed anyone. Some have also said that they avoided saying anything because they were worried someone like Trump would strike back and sue them if they did.

5. Trump Denies These Allegations

A few hours after Summer Zervos’s press conference, Donald Trump released a statement refuting everything she said. He says that he “vaguely” remembers her but that he never greeted her in a hotel and never engaged in inappropriate personal contact with her.

“That is not who I am as a person, and it is not how I’ve conducted my life,” he said. “In fact, Ms. Zervos continued to contact me for help, emailing my office on April 14th of this year asking that I visit her restaurant in California.”

His statement goes on to call the media unethical and accuse them of “creating a theater of absurdity.” He also says that he refuses to “fall victim to this vicious cycle of personal attacks.” A few hours earlier, Trump mocked one of the women who has accused him of sexual assault, implying she is not attractive enough for him to have forced himself on.

“Believe me, she would not be my first choice, that I can tell you,” Trump said of one of his accusers, Jessica Leeds, during a Greensboro rally. “That would not be my first choice.”

Trump also says that these allegations are only being raised as part of a conspiracy to get Hillary Clinton elected president. During the press conference today, Summer Zervos said that she is a Republican.

In the past few days, some of the women who have made accusations against Donald Trump include: Jessica Leeds, who says Trump sexually assaulted her on an airplane 35 years ago; Rachel Crooks, former Trump Tower employee who says Trump forcibly kissed her in an elevator; Natasha Stoynoff, People Magazine writer who says Trump sexually harassed her during an interview in 2005; and Kristin Anderson, who says Donald Trump reached up her skirt without consent in a nightclub during the 1990s.

Several former Miss Universe and Miss USA contestants have also shared stories about what they describe as predatory behavior on the part of Donald Trump, including the fact that he would walk in as the women were changing and look at them naked. Trump himself admitted to doing this during an appearance on the Howard Stern show.
